Benefits Of Container Gardening
With the growth of the patio in many of our lives it can be no surprise that container gardening has become a very big influence in many of our gardening ideas and plans. Planting a garden can be a considerable expense and to fill large beds with plants can cost a fortune. Many gardeners when starting to lay their ideas down, specifically when dealing with a new garden, will cover most of the plot in grass and add some planting at the patio are in the form of garden containers holding decorative plants which will give a splash of color to the area.
When it comes to choosing container garden units, the choice is vast. Go to any garden center and you will be astounded at the variety of different planters which are available. They range in price as well, from the very cheapest, to the ridiculously priced. When making your choice, consider the type of container plants you are going to have. If you are going to have lots of trailing plants which will cover the face of the planter, then you may be best to choose the least expensive plastic container. A more expensive and decorative piece would be best if it is to be used as a focal point in the garden ideas you have for the whole scheme.
Garden containers come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and some a more suited to one plant than another. For example, a hanging basket is best suited for use with trailing types of plants, where their tendrils will look pleasing and will not touch the ground and be stood on or destroyed. A specific type of pot, barrel, or basket made of wood, plastic or terracotta, and is free standing, may best be suited to growing small bulbs, herbs or even some forms of vegetables.
When planting a garden it is worth spending some time in thinking about the arrangement of containers around the garden and not just on the patio. A lot of garden ideas in books show garden containers of all shapes and sizes being used in what would normally be considered ideal places. For example, broken terracotta pots sited under a tree, of an old Wellington boot filled with daffodils sitting in the middle of a bed running alongside the fencing. To develop a container garden requires a lot of thought, and research should be carried out into what container plants make the best displays.
